The Importance of Education by Fernando FREDERICK
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” John Dewey
The world is subjected to a number of natural laws that we have, for a long time, ignored though our curiosity has allowed us to discover, in part, over time. Thanks to much research and discovery, humans have been able to survive and continue to improve their quality of life. However, at the same time, there are still things that remain unknown but human curiosity pushes us to know what we are ignorant of and to understand better what we already know.
Education is a means in itself to assure the training and development of human beings. Education is the condition necessary for the well-being of the individual and the collective society. In each human being there is potential though education does not work to transform in the person but rather to enlighten them.
There is a proverb that says, “You never know the length of a frog until it dies” which means that when there is an absence of education you can measure its importance. Because of the various problems that education has, juvenile delinquency is growing with many conflicting groups, many armed groups shooting each other…
Faced with these problems, it’s necessary to help while we’re educating as many people as possible because education encourages communication, communication encourages understanding and this can bring calm to situations even those very complicated. This is as always, to the benefit of all humanity.
In Haiti, they say that the majority of the population is illiterate; therefore it should be the duty of the minority to use their knowledge to serve better and education the collective majority which deserves to be guided and helped. More than that, we should take advantage at the same time to understand and share in a scientific way how the peasants, farmers, market people have important knowledge and experience that they can offer to everyone as well.
What is important now is that no occasion is missed to educate ourselves in the best way. I have many projects and dreams though I am aware and convinced that it is education that will enlighten me so that I will have the possibility to realize one of my greatest dreams which is to contribute professionally to the development and well-being of all those in my community.
In all that I have said, what other path could we take in order to attain this level and allow others to benefit from this as well, if it’s not through education?
